Borrow Lenses and Cameras!

Check this out guys! BORROWLENSES.COM . This site is pretty awesome, If you are contemplating wether or not to get a certain camera or lens, why not test it out first? Borrow Lenses ships it directly to you along with self addressed labels to ship back. The prices seem pretty reasonable too. I have heard good things about the website, I think it would be fun to test out some cameras! =]

You might lose the copyright of your art!!!!

This is serious, please read! The Orphaned Art Act was denied once but it is being brought up again! The Orphaned Art Act gives the right to whomever(companies, students etc.) to use you art work for free and it is legal! Unless you register it and pay for the copyright of your work, then it is up for grabs! Doesn't sound very fair right? All those hard years of coming up with concepts and working for who knows how long on it, it can now be taken and used. So we must do something about it, perhaps start a group against it and get everyone to join, write to a government, just let your voice be heard!

remission.new project. dance show!

So I have really great news! My mom is now in remission with her cancer! We still need to keep an eye on it, but for now she is cancer free and I feel like I just won the lottery =] Good news for once!

Also I am really happy with my photos so far with my new project, where I am documenting a family, and how they deal with 7year old logans brian cancer. Such a loving family who is so willing to help me with this project. They try to live a "normal" life as much as possible, which is why I am trying to show. Their family bond is just inspiring.

Last night I went to the Senior Uarts Dance Show at the Drake to take some photos and I was really impressed and so glad that I went! I have been working with Scott a senior dance major here at Uarts doing some photos of his dance piece! So here are some photos from the show! =]

Cancer Awareness Project...so excited!

Here is an update from my last post about the new project! My mom agreed to be apart of this project, which makes me extremely happy because I know this will be very therapeutic for the both of us.

But I also wanted to open this up to others, so I decided to e-mail the director of a cancer club in south jersey(where I am from) and explained my project to her and asked if she would mind e-mailing the members about this project. Well she was very willing to do so, and I received so many responses! It was very overwhelming at first, hearing everyones story and how much they wanted to be apart of this was just amazing. But the one thing that was similar with every person is that they had such an amazing outlook on life, and it was very motivating.

So I scheduled to meet with a few of them this weekend, just to talk, get to know each other better, and take some photos. I really can't wait, and they seem pretty excited too! =]

What The World Eats...photo essay

"What The World Eats" photographed by Peter Menzel
I really love this photo essay. It amazes me how much some people spend on food for just one week! The highest amount was $500.00! and the Lowest amount spent was $1.80! It's interesting to see the food with the consumers of it, and where they are from. You can tell by the photographs that some people took time to place everything perfectly for the camera and others just laid it out there. It's just a great concept and makes you wonder how much you spend on food in one week!  PETER MENZEL - check out the rest of the photos!

Enjoy=]

next project..already thinking of ideas...

So for our next project we have to do a narrative..which are my favorite projects. I like to inform people with my narratives, and I hope that they do become informed. I also like to evoke a certain emotion to also effect the viewer.

Sooo... my idea for this project is to do a project with my mom, who was recently diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma cancer about 4 months ago but has felt like a lifetime. I want to start from the beginning...from the point of which we had ignore the warning signs, which if you aren't aware that it could be cancer you would have no idea and think it was anything but cancer. And then I want to show the emotion of finding out the news and being completely out of control of the situation. And then I want to document her progress and the treatment she has to go through. I'm starting off very personal, which I usually do in the beginning but I would defiantly like to open it open to any others who have to deal with this issue as well.

If anyone has feedback...I would appreciate it..thanks guys and have a great spring break! =]

Oceanides...Greg Schilhab

So I have been searching the internet for dance photographers, I've found a lot of photographers that document performances and classes but none that make the art form into another art. Lois Greenfield's website kept reappearing, but I already love her work, and then I found Greg Schilhab, he photographed dance underwater, which is such a great idea and the photographs are really amazing. So here are some! If you want to see the rest you can go to his website HERE .

Acting The Part...

Gregory Crewdson is an amazing photographer who does staged photographs. They are really beautiful photographs that are just perfectly thought out. Each photograph has a really strong narrative also, it evokes an emotion in you, and I really love when photography can do that.
He also has a great book which is defiantly worth getting Gregory Crewdson 1985-2005

I also stumbled upon a Staged Photo History book which if anyone is interested in doing more staged work this would probably be a great book to read, Acting The Part

Vanity Fair...Hitchcock Classics

Four photographers, Julian Broad, Norman Jean Roy, Mark Seliger and Art Streiber, and 21 of the finest actors working today, recreated stills from Alfred Hitchcocks movies. These photographs are great! I think the idea of recreating movie stills is neat and would love to try it!
Enjoy the photos!

Gallery 339

Ruth Thorne-Thomsen

I really enjoyed viewing her work. It was defiantly different and very unique. The Three images I chose are 5x4 inches and remind me of postcards the way they are shaped with the black border.
I like how she played around with the scale of images and combined them into one. It has a soft touch to each photograph, I also like the high contrast and silhouette of the figures.
My favorite part of the images is defiantly the scale though, I think it is what makes the photographs really interesting.

The Decisive Moment assignment

Making a birthday wish...

Finding the perfect piece of fruit...

My favorite is the birthday photograph, It's right before my niece was about to make her birthday wish and blow out her candles, it makes you wonder what her wish was. I also love the lighting in the photograph.
I used 400 tmx for this project, and for printing each photo I used a #3 filter, for higher contrast.

old family photos

My grandma and I went through her box of old photos awhile ago and I love them and I figured I would share them with everyone. My grandma grew up in Philadelphia(mayfair area), so its really neat to see how its changed.
The first photograph is my grandpa when he was about 5 yrs old. The second image is of my great- nanny on the Atlantic City beach. The third image is my grandma, her dad and her sister in phildelphia. The last image is of my grandma in philadelphia during WWII and the can next to her was filled with sand and was on most street corners, and if a bomb was to hit, you would throw the sand onto it.

Enjoy =]

looking back...

(sorry for the quality of the photos, my scanner isn't the best)

The first image is from our final project last semester, which was to create a triptych almost, to tell a story through 3 images. I choose to photograph the church that I grew up in(it is in the process of being rebuilt).  This is my favorite from the 3, I love the lighting and the high contrast. I used 100 speed film for this project, and did not use any artificial lighting at all.
It was really interesting exploring a space that I was really comfortable with, but also challenging because of that fact, it wasn't a new atmosphere and I wasn't looking at it with fresh eyes. But non the less, it was great to photograph the space!

The second image is from my series "Drunk Driving", almost a year ago one of my friends was killed by a drunk driver. Ever since then I felt that my friend was silenced. By doing this project I was hoping to bring awareness to others, and also bring the feeling of losing someone very important to them. This is an image from the accident scene, I really like the lighting in this photograph, and although it is a simple composition, I feel that it has a strong emotion to it. I would like to develop more into this project, hopefully this semester!
