Cancer Awareness Project...so excited!

Here is an update from my last post about the new project! My mom agreed to be apart of this project, which makes me extremely happy because I know this will be very therapeutic for the both of us.

But I also wanted to open this up to others, so I decided to e-mail the director of a cancer club in south jersey(where I am from) and explained my project to her and asked if she would mind e-mailing the members about this project. Well she was very willing to do so, and I received so many responses! It was very overwhelming at first, hearing everyones story and how much they wanted to be apart of this was just amazing. But the one thing that was similar with every person is that they had such an amazing outlook on life, and it was very motivating.

So I scheduled to meet with a few of them this weekend, just to talk,get to know each other better, and take some photos. I really can't wait, and they seem pretty excited too! =]

What The World Eats...photo essay

"What The World Eats" photographed by Peter Menzel
I really love this photo essay. It amazes me how much some people spend on food for just one week! The highest amount was $500.00! and the Lowest amount spent was $1.80! It's interesting to see the food with the consumers of it, and where they are from. You can tell by the photographs that some people took time to place everything perfectly for the camera and others just laid it out there. It's just a great concept and makes you wonder how much you spend on food in one week!  PETER MENZEL - check out the rest of the photos!

Enjoy=]

next project..already thinking of ideas...

So for our next project we have to do a narrative..which are my favorite projects. I like to inform people with my narratives, and I hope that they do become informed. I also like to evoke a certain emotion to also effect the viewer.

Sooo... my idea for this project is to do a project with my mom, who was recently diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma cancer about 4 months ago but has felt like a lifetime. I want to start from the beginning...from the point of which we had ignore the warning signs, which if you aren't aware that it could be cancer you would have no idea and think it was anything but cancer. And then I want to show the emotion of finding out the news and being completely out of control of the situation. And then I want to document her progress and the treatment she has to go through. I'm starting off very personal,which I usually do in the beginning but I would defiantly like to open it open to any others who have to deal with this issue as well.

If anyone has feedback...I would appreciate it..thanks guys and have a great spring break! =]

Oceanides...Greg Schilhab

So I have been searching the internet for dance photographers, I've found a lot of photographers that document performances and classes but none that make the art form into another art. Lois Greenfield's website kept reappearing, but I already love her work, and then I found Greg Schilhab, he photographed dance underwater, which is such a great idea and the photographs are really amazing. So here are some! If you want to see the rest you can go to his website HERE .

Acting The Part...

Gregory Crewdson is an amazing photographer who does staged photographs. They are really beautiful photographs that are just perfectly thought out. Each photograph has a really strong narrative also, it evokes an emotion in you, and I really love when photography can do that.
He also has a great book which is defiantly worth getting Gregory Crewdson 1985-2005

I also stumbled upon a Staged Photo History book which if anyone is interested in doing more staged work this would probably be a great book to read, Acting The Part
